| Removing Pubic Hair After Pregnancy |
Question: Woman do ghusl after 40 days of delivering after pregnancy. Can I remove pubic hair before the 40 days end?
Answer:
Praise be to Allah.
In Islam, purification is of high esteem, to the extent that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarded it as a half of one’s iman (faith), saying, “Purification is half of the faith.”
Removing the pubic hair, whether by plucking, using a depilatory agent, shaving or cutting, is one of the actions dictated by the fitrah and encouraged by Islam, but it is not restricted to or required at the end of every period or pregnancy. Ahmad, al-Bukhaari, Muslim and the authors of Sunan reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Five things are part of the fitrah: removing the pubic hairs, circumcision, trimming the moustache, plucking the armpit hairs, and trimming the nails.” It was reported that Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “A time limit was set for us with regard to trimming the moustache, cutting the nails, plucking the armpit hairs, and shaving the pubic hair – we should not leave it for more than forty days. (Reported by Muslim, Ibn Maajah, Ahmad, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nisaa’i and Abu Dawood). They said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set a time limit for us…” Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, 5/127F
It goes without saying that it is natural part of religion and rules of hygiene in Islam to remove pubic hair, shave our armpits, and clip our nails. Islam teaches us to keep ourselves clean and tidy. However, there is nothing in the sources of Shari`ah to make removing such hair as an essential requirement for the validity of ghusl. Thus, there is no restriction that would prevent you from removing the pubic hair before 40 days end after pregnancy as long as there is no harm, on your body.
And Allah knows best.
