| Attending Events of Non-Muslims |
Question:
I am a non-Muslim and my partner has recently become a practising Muslim. I would like to marry him one day and I think he feels the same but he has informed me he can not attend any family gatherings, weddings, holidays etc where other people may be consuming alcohol. I respect that alcohol is not tolerated but I want him to attend these functions with me especially if we get married and he became my husband. I want to respect my family and spend time with them too. What advice could you give us?

I pray to God to open your heart to see the truth of Islam even as your partner has been open to it. I also advise you to turn to God sincerely to help you in your search for truth.
Now coming to the question, whether Muslims can attend the gathering of their non-Muslim relatives or friends, I would say:
They should do so as long as they themselves do not indulge in that which is forbidden in Islam. Muslims are not allowed to drink alcohol or consume pork. So, while attending these functions, they should stay away from such things. However, this does not in any way mean that they impose this on those who do not share their faith.
