Question:
I just wonder if working for telecommunication companies such as Telus or Shaw Cable is permissible in Islam. As we all know such companies provide people with many of TV channels, some of them are explicit in nudity and sexuality.
Answer:
Praise be to Allah.
Companies like Telus, BT, and Shaw Cable are actually service providers. They, as far as my understanding can go, provide the service and do maintenance, whenever required. They are not responsible for the abuse of the service by some customers. Those who work for such companies represent the role of the company itself and they are not responsible for any usage violations by the users or customers.
Based on this, there is nothing wrong in working for these companies as long as they do not clearly declare that they are providing pure nudity or pornography to their customers.
