Eid ul Adha 2010

"Those who believe and do good, for them are garden of bliss, to abide therein."  (Al-Quran 31:8, 9)

On behalf of the Muslim Community in Calgary, the Muslim Council of Calgary (MCC) congratulates Calgary for Eid ul Adha, and invites all Calgary’s citizens to join us in celebrating the Festival of Sacrifice, praying that God’s peace may prevail on Earth.

Eid ul Adha is a festival celebrated by Muslims worldwide commemorating Prophet Ibrahim`s (Peace be upon him) willingness to sacrifice his son the Prophet Ishmael (Peace be upon him) for the sake of Allah (Who Alone Is Worthy of Praise). It is one of two Eids (festivals) that Muslims celebrate yearly.

The Eid ul Adha gathering begins with a short prayer followed by a sermon. This Eid is also known as the Greater Eid because it takes place on the day after Muslim pilgrims descend from Mount Arafat in Saudi Arabia.

In remembrance, Muslims around the world sacrifice a lamb, goat, cow or camel and gift the meat to family, friends, relatives, and most importantly, the poor and the needy.
This year, Eid ul Adha is celebrated around the world on November 16th with prayer and community gatherings.

Calgary’s Eid Prayer will be held in the Big Four at Calgary’s Stampede Grounds on Tuesday, November 16th at 9:30 AM. Please join us to celebrate this great event with Muslim communities around the world.

Eid Mubarak to all of you and May Allah (Who Alone is Worth of Praise) Bless you and your families, and accept all your good deeds.
