Calgary Muslims Demand Prime Minister to Uphold International Law and Safety of Canadians Abroad 

 

CALGARY – The Muslim Council of Calgary (MCC), the elected body representing Calgary’s 60 thousand mainstream Muslims, today demanded that Prime Minister Stephen Harper use his close and friendly relationship with the State of Israel to defend the rule of international law and the safety of Canadians currently missing in the aftermath of the recent Israeli attack on the Gaza aid flotilla. 

 

In a statement issued today, MCC Spokesperson David Liepert said:

 

“With its attack on the Gaza Relief Convoy in international waters, Israel has now added piracy to its long list of international infractions requiring strong and united action by the civilized nations of the world.

 

“Objective observers warn us that war crimes are happening in Gaza, that Israel is attacking civilian ships carrying humanitarian relief and even Holocaust survivors in open waters, and that Canadian citizens have been illegally detained. Yet, our government has so far done nothing.

 

“What does Israel have to do before our Prime Minister calls for all of the suffering, loss of life, and horrible injustices to come to an end?”
