YOUTH AIM TO END HATE BASED BULLYING IN CALGARY
CALGARY – The Muslim Council of Calgary, the elected body representing Calgary’s 70,000 Muslims, and Calgary Muslim Youth Services are pleased to host a city-wide Youth P.R.I.D.E. (Putting Racism, Islamophobia, and Discrimination to an End) program aiming to end hate based bullying in the city of Calgary.
Youth Putting Racism, Islamophobia, and Discrimination to an End (Youth PRIDE) is a youth based initiative aimed at empowering youth, protecting human rights, enhancing intellectual curiosity, promoting dialogue, and advocating for equal access to services for all. This year’s theme is U.N.I.T.E.D. – U.N.I Transforming Every Dispute.
Bullying is not a harmless childhood experience, people who bully others and get a sense of satisfaction out of it show symptoms of sadism and psychopathy. YES! It is that serious. The bus ride home can be a horrifying experience for any child who is bullied. One young Muslim girl who wears the traditional head covering called hijab broke the silence and called out for help. Youth PRIDE was our response for her and everyone else who suffers needlessly due to racism and Islamophobia.
Be sure to check out the plays, skits, youth written poems, and famous quotes recited throughout the day with the main events taking place between 11:45 and 1:15 pm on March 23, 2012.
