We were able to gather and not only celebrate history but actually make history. Not only did we remember and celebrate the Birth of our Nation over the Canada Day Long weekend but as Muslims in Calgary, we celebrated 50 Golden and Proud, Fruitful, Successful years of our Islamic Heritage and Multi-Culturalism in Calgary.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, 

 

Aslamu Alykum Wa Rahamtullahe Wa Barakatuh, 

 

I pray to Allah SWT that my message reaches you all whilst you are in the best of health and the highest levels of Eman! 

 

It was only by the the Grace of Allah SWT that we were able to gather and not only celebrate history but actually make history. Not only did we remember and celebrate the Birth of our Nation over the Canada Day Long weekend but as Muslims in Calgary, we celebrated 50 Golden and Proud, Fruitful, Successful years of our Islamic Heritage and Multi-Culturalism in Calgary. 

 

We celebrated “The Power of Our Unity”; thousands of Muslims Strong in Calgary and the Multi-Culturalism that we share not only within Canadian Society as a whole, but within our own Muslim Community. It is one of the things I am most proud of as a Muslim Community leader, the fact that I can walk into any of our Masajid and see a wide variation of the races that God created. It is the beauty of Islam. 

 

Allah SWT Said: 

 

"يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ مِنْ ذَكَرٍ وَأُنثَى وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ شُعُوبًا وَقَبَائِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوا إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاكُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌ"

 

"O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other. Verily the most honored of you in the sight of God is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And God has full knowledge and is well acquainted with all things."

 

All over the world today Muslims are facing hardship, trials and tribulations. The divide and conquer tactic is being applied heavily on Muslims locally and around the world with different types of weapons and various methodologies. Whether it is through military bombardment or through the instigation of civil war or through the media, even our local media attacking our right to exists in this Country and hold beliefs and traditions, or to practice our religion or to dress differently and so on. Our scholars and Imams are being attacked all over the globe both physically and verbally. If we don’t stand up, if we don’t rally behind our leaders, and if we don’t meet to perfect and protect our unity and strive to be productive, integrated citizens of this beautiful Nation made up of all of God’s creation, then we will be as the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said as Gutha Alseyel or the Foam or Froth on top of the Ocean! 

 

“They want to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah refuses except to perfect His light, although the disbelievers dislike it.”

 

Some local politicians, media and others like Ezra Levant, Licia Corbella, Rob Breckenridge or Salim Mansur, etc. called on our Police Service, our Mayor, our Premier, our Prime Minister and others to monitor our Conference for Hate Speech! Without even knowing what our topics are! Or what our Conference is really about, the fact that we were labeled as such and attacked is really a sad thing to see and we cannot stand by idle. We must act by voicing our opinions to these haters of Islam and Muslims. 

 

I really want to thank our Police Service and SGT Bill Dodd for standing up for us and recognizing the Muslim Council of Calgary’s long standing and solid relationship with the Calgary Police Service and for reminding people of the rights and freedoms of all Citizens in this Country. 

 

I sincerely thank ALL of our Honoured Scholars and Speakers who travelled great distances to be with us this past weekend. We were certainly blessed to have had amongst us some of the most knowledgable Scholars and Speakers in the WORLD and among the Highest of Caliber. Alhamdulilah.

 

Thank you to all those who worked so hard; our 105 youth volunteers who made it shine BIG TIME, I am so proud of you guys you helped me to hold my head very high! Also the MCC members and our Conference Chairman Br. Nagah El-Hage for all he went through to make this happen along with Br. Mohammad Ibrahim, for all the late and sleepless nights working on this. Thank you guys so much. 

 

Let us continue together on the path of Unity and success and let the oppressors know we are a solid force of Eman Insha’Allah.
